Farmer to Farmer Project: Organization

Promotes awareness of:

• Cuban agriculture (world leadership in large scale organic farming, use of biopesticides and biofertilizers, healthy co-ops, one strong voice for farmers, effective farm extension, respect)
  


• Strategic potential for collaboration.

Cooperative, bilateral capacity building initiatives such as:
 

PROJECT ONE: To facilitate an exchange between farm groups in Canada and Cuba to share skills to their mutual benefit.    .


PHASE 1:  (September  2004) Enhancing Sustainable Dairy Production Capacity in Cuba   (CIDA)

PHASE 2:  (Proposed) Enhancing large-scale organic and urban agriculture in Canada  (e.g. through centres of excellence). 

Creation of a farmer led, sustainable cooperative trade model to both

a) increase export markets for Canadian food and beverage products to Cuba (hotels, Cuban population) and

b) marry the large-scale production capacity of Cuban farmers (e.g. in citrus) with the technology, marketing and capital access of Canadian farmers to competitively capture and ethically share value added from international organic markets.
